Recipe: Add a New Proxy server Windows

Expected deliverables:

A proxy server for Veeam backup & Replication that processes jobs and delivers backup traffic to repositories. You can deploy and use several backup proxies to distribute the backup workload.

Time to complete: 5 minutes


  • Server (Virtual or Physical) with minimum of 2 cores (vCPUs), plus 1 core (vCPU) for each additional concurrent task, 2 GB RAM plus 200 MB for each concurrent task, disk space 300 MB plus 50 MB for each concurrent task.
  • Windows Server Operating system at least server Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Microsoft Windows 7 SP1.
  • Local Administrative account access on your server.

Before you start:

The Veeam Proxy software is automatically uploaded and installed by the Veeam Backup and Replication server.


You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed.
You have added at least one Microsoft Windows Server in the Backup infrastructure. If you have not added a server to the backup infrastructure, please refer to “Adding Microsoft Windows Servers”Recipe.


  1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.
  2. Select Backup Infrastructure on the bottom left menu.
  3. Right click Backup Proxies and choose “Add backup proxy”.
  4. Select the Windows Server, adjust the number of Max concurrent tasks if needed and click Next.
  5. Configure Traffic Rules if required. Click Next.
  6. Review the settings and confirm by clicking Apply.
  7. After installation and registration is completed, click Finish and the Windows proxy server is ready to use.
