Recipe: Adding Backup Repositories with Object Storage

Expected deliverables:

A new backup repository where backups are stored in Object Storage.

Time to complete: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Access to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 GUI
  • Credentials and access details for the desired Object Storage
    • An existing proxy server

Assumptions: You have an existing Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 installation.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 interface.
  2. Open the “Backup Infrastructure” view.
  3. Right click “Backup Repositories” in the inventory pane and select “Add backup repository”.
  4. Enter a name and optional description for the backup repository, and click “Next” to proceed.
  5. Select “Backup to object storage”. Click “Next”.
  6. Select the Object Storage provider of choice. Click “Next”.
  7. Specify teh connection details for the Object Storage. Click “Next”.
  8. Select the Bucket/Container and specify a folder to store the backup data. Click “Next”.
  9. Select a backup proxy or proxy pool. Click “Next”.
  10. Specify the retention policy, and choose beetween “Snapshot-based” and “Item-level” retention type. Click “Advanced” if you want to specify when to apply a retention policy between “Daily at” and “Monthly at”.
  11. Flag the “Make Backups immutable (recommended)” if Needed
  12. Flag the “Encrypt data uploaded to object storage” and speify an encrypton password if needed.
  13. Click “Finish” to end the repository configuration.
