Recipe: Adding Worker Configuration for Backup Account

Expected deliverables:

A new Worker configuration do deploy Worker instances in the AWS Backup Account to retention tasks, to execute EC2 backup and EC2 restore operations, and to create RDS archived backups.

Time to complete: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Access to Veeam Backup for AWS appliance using a browser
  • A AWS VPC network in the same región where Worker instances will be deployed.
  • A VPC Subnet with the public IPv4 addressing attribute enabled.
  • The selected VPC network must have an internet gateway attached, and the VPC network and subnet route tables must have routes that direct internet-bound traffic to this internet gateway.
  • An AWS Security Group allowing inbound HTTPS traffic to all VM instances on the specified VPC network. This Security Group must also allow direct network connection with AWS Services.

Assumptions: You have an existing Veeam Backup for AWS deployment.

Method:

  1. In a web browser, navigate to the Veeam Backup for AWS appliance web address. Also you can access from VBR Console, from Backup Infrastructure > Managed Server, righ-click to the Veeam for AWS Appliance, and then click in Open Console
  2. Click in Configuration in the upper-right corner, then navigate to Workers > Network and then click in Add in the Worker Configuration section.
  3. At the General step, select an AWS Region and Availability Zone for which you want to configure the Worker.
  4. At the Network step
    • Select an AWS VPC network for worker instances.
    • Select a Subnet for the worker instances.
    • Select a a Service Group to provide access to the Worker
    • Click Next
  5. At the Summary step, review summary information and click Finish.
