Recipe: Deployment of Veeam Backup for AWS appliance
Expected deliverables:
A Veeam Backup for AWS appliance deployed in AWS and ready to use.
Time to complete: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- A Veeam Backup and Replication instance with access to AWS
- An AWS Account
- An AWS Access Key for AWS Users already addedd to Veeam Backup & Replication instance with the proper privileges.
- An AWS VPC Network and subnet in the region and zone where the Veeam for AWS appliance will be deployed.
- The specified AWS VPC and subnet must have the outbound internet access to AWS services listed below in AWS Services.
- A Security Group that allows the inbound HTTPS access to the Veeam Backup for AWS appliance.
Before you start:
Make sure you have a Veeam Backup for AWS license, and that you have access to Amazon Web Services with enough privileges to create resources
Assumptions:
You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed.
Method:
- In the Veeam Backup & Replication console, open the Backup Infrastructure view. Navigate to Managed Servers and click Add Server > Veeam cloud-native backup appliance > Veeam Backup for AWS
- At the Deployment Mode step, select Deploy a new appliance. Click Next
- At the Account step:
- Select the access keys of an IAM user from the AWS account drop-down list. If necessary, click in Add to add a new AWS Access Key for AWS Users.
- Select an AWS Region and a Data center.
- At the EC2 Instance step, specify the name for the EC2 instance to be created in AWS. As an option you can click in Configure EC2 instance type to change the EC2 Instance type.
- At the Connection Type step, select Private IP address (dynamic) to deploy the appliance with a Public IP (default)
- At the Networking step:
- Select an AWS VPC, Subnet and Security Group for the appliance. As an option, Veeam can create these resources during deployment if the AWS Account has the required privileges for this operation.
- Specify the VBR Server public IP which will be granted access to the Appliance.
- At the Guest OS step
- Click in Add next to Create the following administrator credentials drop-down list, to create credentials for administrator access to the appliance.
- Select and existing AWS Key Pair or click in Add next to Use the following key pair drop-down list to create a new Key Pair.
- Click in Apply and wait for the deployment to be completed.
- Click in Next and Finish to close the wizard.
