Recipe: Adding M365 Organizations with Modern App-Only Authentication
Expected deliverables:
A Microsoft 365 organization added to the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 infrastructure.
Time to complete: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- Access to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 GUI using a browser
- Azure AD application settings
Before you start: Adding Microsoft 365 organizations using modern app-only authentication is not supported for Microsoft Azure Germany region.
Assumptions: You have an existing Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 installation.
Method:
- Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 interface.
- On the “Organizations” view, right click “Organizations” in the inventory pane and select “Add organization”.
- Select “Microsoft 365” as organization deployment type, and the services to protect between “Exchange Online”, “SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business” and “Microsoft Teams”. Click “Next” to proceed.
- Select the region and “Modern authentication”. Click “Next”.
- Choose whether you want to register a new Azure AD application to connect to your Microsoft 365 organization or use an existing Azure AD application. Click “Next”. 1a. If you chose to use a new Azure AD application registration, enter a name for the new Azure AD Application and click “Install” to specify an SSL certificate. A wizard will open for the installation of the certificate (see the “Installing SSL Certificate” recipe”). 1b. If you chose to use an existing Azure AD application, enter enter a user account, then specify an identification number of Azure AD application and click “Install” to specify an SSL certificate. A wizard will open for the installation of the certificate (see the “Installing SSL Certificate” recipe”). Select the “Grant this application required permissions and register its certificate in Azure AD” check box.
- Tick the “Allow this application to enable export mode for SharePoint Web Parts” check box if you need to back up web parts of your Microsoft SharePoint websites. Click “Next”.
- Log in to your Microsoft 365 organization using the provided code. Click “Next”.
- Wait for the connection to be established, then click “Finish”.
