Recipe: Adding Backup Proxy Servers

Expected deliverables:

A new Backup Proxy server to backup and restore Microsoft 365 data.

Time to complete: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

• Access to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 GUI using a browser
• An user account belonging to the Local Administrator group
• A Windows server machine with direct access to the internet, or with an internet proxy server connection.

Before you start: Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 automatically installs the Proxy Service on the machine that you want to use as a backup proxy server. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 allows you to deploy “Domain” and “Workgroup” backup proxies. Check your security before starting the deployment.

Assumptions: You have an existing Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 installation.

Method:

1. Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 interface.
2. Open the “Backup Infrastructure” view.
3. Right click “Backup Proxies” in the inventory pane and select “Add backup proxy”.
4. In the Host field, enter a DNS name or IP address of the machine you want to use as a backup proxy server, and check the “Use domain network” to configure the machine as “Domain” backup proxy. Add a description and click “Next” to proceed.
5. Specify a user account, member of the Local Administrator group, that will be used to connect to the specified machine. Click “Next”.
6. Wait for the installation to complete, then click “Finish”.
