Recipe: Adding Object Storage - Azure Blob

Expected deliverables:

A new Azure Blob object storage added to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 backup infrastructure.

Time to complete: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Access to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 GUI using a browser
  • An Azure Blob storage
  • An existing proxy server

Before you start: Immutability can only be enabled for backup copies.

Assumptions: You have an existing Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 installation.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 interface.
  2. Open the “Backup Infrastructure” view.
  3. Right click “Object Storage” in the inventory pane and select “Add object storage”.
  4. Enter a name and optional description for the object storage repository, and click “Next” to proceed.
  5. Choose “Microsoft Azure Blob Storage” as a storage type, then click “Next”.
  6. Select “Azure Blob Storage” for both backup and backup copy jobs, or “Azure Archive Storage” to store backup copies only. Click “Next”.
  7. Click “Add” to provide your account and a shared key to connect to the Azure storage account, or specify the account credentials in the drop-down list. Click “Next”.
  8. Specify the Container and folder where you want to keep your data. You can also enable immutability for the Archive Storage. Click “Next”
  9. Choose whether to enable the Azure Archiver Appliance. Specify the service account credentials, or configure a new service account using the “Add Azure Service Account”. Click “Customize” to specify the VM size, RG, Virtual Network and Subnet.
  10. Click “Finish” to end the object storage configuration.
