Recipe: Connecting a Proxmox VE Server to Veeam Infrastructure
Expected deliverables:
A Proxmox VE standalone host or cluster node added to the Veeam backup infrastructure and ready to protect its VMs.
Time to complete: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- A Proxmox VE standalone host or cluster reachable from the Veeam Backup Server.
- SSH credentials of a root user (or a user elevated to root) for the Proxmox VE server, added to the Credentials Manager.
- The Proxmox VE Plug-in is installed with Veeam Backup & Replication (already included in V13).
Before you start:
Each node of a Proxmox VE cluster must be added to the backup infrastructure separately.
Assumptions:
You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed.
Method:
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console and select Backup Infrastructure.
- Select Managed Servers, click Add Server on the ribbon, then select Virtualization Platforms and choose Proxmox VE.
- Specify the Proxmox VE server DNS name or IP address and a description. Click Next.
- At the Credentials step, from the Credentials list, select the SSH account with enough privileges. If you have not set up credentials beforehand, click the Manage accounts link or click Add on the right to add the credentials.
- Provide the Username and Password for the account that you want to add.
- If you use a user elevated to root, select the Elevate account privileges automatically check box.
- Click OK to complete the account creation
- At the Credentials step, click in Next and click Continue to accept the server certificate.
- At the Snapshot Storage step, keep the default (largest available file-level storage) or select a specific file-level storage for VM snapshots. Click Next.
- At the Apply step, wait until Veeam adds the server. Click Next.
- At the Summary step, review the details and click Finish.
