The Veeam Cookbook Series

A simple step by step no frills approach to achieving your goal

Recipe: Copy Backups to another Repository (one-time)

Expected deliverables:

A one-time copy of a backup chain to another backup repository or folder, without configuring a scheduled job.

Time to complete: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • A Backup Repository (or local/shared folder) to receive the copied backups.
  • An existing backup with at least one successfully created restore point.

Before you start:

This is a one-time operation that copies the whole backup chain. If you need a scheduled copy, create a Backup Copy Job instead. Note that you can copy backups of an individual workload only if its backups are per-machine backups with separate metadata files

Assumptions:

You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup Console and select Home on the bottom left menu.
  2. Select Backups in the inventory pane, right-click the backup job or workload you want to copy and select Copy backup.
  3. Select the target backup repository (or specify a server and folder).
    • You can select the Delete this backup automatically in check box if you want to delete the copied backups after a specific time period.
  4. Confirm the operation and click OK. The copied backup appears in the (Exported) category in the inventory pane.
