Recipe: Restore a Proxmox VE VM to a Public Cloud

Expected deliverables:

A Proxmox VE VM restored from a Veeam backup as a Microsoft Azure VM, an Amazon EC2 instance, or a Google Cloud VM instance.

Time to complete: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • A Proxmox VE backup with at least one successfully created restore point.
  • Cloud credentials for the target cloud (Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud) added to Veeam Backup & Replication.

Before you start:

Cloud restore uses helper appliances deployed in the target cloud; make sure the target cloud account and network settings are prepared.

Assumptions:
You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console and select Home on the bottom left menu.
  2. Select Backups in the inventory pane, expand the necessary backup job, right-click the VM you want to restore and select the target cloud: Microsoft Azure, Amazon EC2 or Google CE.
  3. Select a restore point and click Next.
  4. Specify the target cloud account, region and resources (size, network, security settings) for the restored VM. Click Next.
  5. In the Reason step, enter a reason for performing the restore and click Next.
  6. In the Summary step, review the details and click Finish.
