Recipe: Deploying a Proxmox VE Worker

Expected deliverables:

A Proxmox VE worker deployed in the environment to move backup and restore data between Proxmox VE and the backup repository.

Time to complete: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • A Proxmox VE server added to the backup infrastructure.
  • Storage on the Proxmox VE server with enough capacity for the worker VM.
  • A network with connectivity to the Veeam Backup Server and the backup repository.

Before you start:
It is recommended that workers are deployed on each node registered with a Proxmox VE cluster Workers are Linux-based VMs deployed automatically by Veeam Backup & Replication; you do not need to build them manually.

Assumptions:

You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed and a Proxmox VE server added.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console and select Backup Infrastructure.
  2. Select Backup Proxies, then on the ribbon click Add Proxy and select Proxmox VE worker
  3. At the Virtual Machine step,
    • Select a Proxmox host by clicking in Choose
    • Specify a name for the worker.
    • At the Storage field, select the Storage for the Worker to be deployed.
    • Leave the other settings by default unless you need specific parameters, and click in Next
  4. At the Networks step,
    • Click in Add to choose a network to which the worker VM will be connected. Keep the default IP assignment (DHCP) unless a static address is required
    • Configure DNS Server or leave the default Obtain automatically
    • Click Next.
