Recipe: Create an Agent Backup Job for Windows Computers (Server or Cluster)
Expected deliverables:
An Agent Backup Job to backup Windows servers or clusters using Veeam Agents, where the Job will be fully managed by Veeam Backup & Replication.
Time to complete: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- Protection groups that you want to add to the job must be configured in advance.
- Make sure you have a Veeam Backup repository with enough capacity to keep backup files for the retention period.
Before you start:
Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows does not support file-level backup for backup jobs that include clusters.

It’s assumed that you already have a Veeam Backup Server fully working in your environment.
Method:

- At the Job Mode step:
- In the Type field, select the type of protected computers whose data you want to back up with Veeam Agents (Select Server or Failover Cluster).
- Select Managed by backup server as the the job mode.

- At the Computers step, select protection groups whose data you want to back up. Click Add > Protection group, then in the Select Object window select the required Protection Group(s) click Ok. Click Next.
- At the Backup Mode step, select the mode in which you want to create a backup. It could be Entire computer, Volume level backup or File level backup.
- If you have selected the Volume level backup option, at the Objects step you must specify the backup scope — define what volumes you want to include in the backup.
- If you have selected the File level backup option, at the Objects step you must specify the backup scope — define what folders with files or entire volumes you want to include in the backup.
- At the Storage step, from the Backup repository list, select a backup repository where you want to store Veeam Agent backups
- In the Retention Policy field, specify retention policy settings whether based in Days or Restore Points.
- If you want to enable GFS for Long-Term retention, then select the Keep some periodic full backups longer for archival purposes check box and configure GFS options.

- At the Guest Processing step, if it’s required, you can check the Enable application-aware processing option and select the proper credentials from the Guest OS credentials list.
- At the Schedule step, specify the schedule according to which you want to perform backup. Click Apply.
- At the Summary step , review details of the backup job. If you want to start the job right after you close the wizard, select the Run the job when I click Finish check box, otherwise leave the check box unselected. Then click Finish to close the wizard
