The Veeam Cookbook Series
A simple step by step no frills approach to achieving your goal
Recipe: Add a New Repository ExaGrid Appliance
Expected deliverables:
A Veeam Backup & Replication ExaGrid Repository where Veeam keeps backup files, VM copies and metadata for replicated VMs.
Time to complete: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- A ExaGrid appliance working over TCP/IP (firmware version 5.0.0 or later).
- The ExaGrid appliance has been added as a Managed Linux Server
Before you start:
ExaGrid does not host Veeam Data Mover permanently. When any task addresses an ExaGrid storage, Veeam Backup & Replication deploys and starts the Veeam Data Mover on the ExaGrid appliance.
Assumptions:
You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed. You have at least one share created on each ExaGrid appliance with ExaGrid-Veeam Accelerated Data Mover transport option enabled.
Method:
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.
- Select Backup Infrastructure on the bottom left menu.
- Right click Backup Repositories and choose Add Backup Repository.
- In the Add Backup Repository window, select Deduplicating Storage Appliance and ExaGrid
- Specify a name and optional description for the repository and click Next.
- In the Server step, select an appliance that you want to use as a backup repository. Click Next.
- In the Repository step, specify the path to the folder that will be used as repository. Check the Use fast cloning on XFS volumes option, and change the number of concurrent tasks or limit the data rate if required. Click Next.
- In the Mount Server step, confirm or change the mount server settings, then click Next.
- Review the settings and confirm by clicking Apply. If you’re adding a repository with existing backups, flag the setting to import them automatically.
- After installation and registration is completed, click Finish and the ExaGrid repository is ready to use.
