Recipe: Restore with IVMR in a different location

Expected deliverables:

A restored VMware virtual machine in a new location or with a new name.

Time to complete: 8 minutes

Ingredients:

  • At least one Restore Point of the virtual machines to be recovered.

Before you start: With this procedure you will recover a VM in a different location or with a new name.

Assumptions: You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed and configured. You have setup the related VMware environment in the Inventory of Veeam Backup and Replication.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.
  2. Select Home on the bottom left menu.
  3. Select Restore -> VMware vSphere from the top menu.
  4. Select Restore from backup, then Entire VM restore, then Instant recovery and Instant recovery to VMware vSphere.
  5. Select Add -> From backup… to open the selection of available backups. Choose the desired VM from on of the backup and click Add. Repeat this for multiple VMs. You can use the search bar below to find all backup jobs containing a certain VM.
  6. Select Restore to a new location, or with different settings and click Next.
  7. Select a VM, click Host… and select the target Host for the restore process. The host can be in different VMware cluster or datacenter. Click OK and repeat this if you have multiple VMs to be restored. Click Next.
  8. Select a VM, click Pool… and choose a specific Restore Pool if needed. Click OK and repeat this if you have multiple VMs to be restored. Click Next.
  9. Select a VM, click Datastore… and choose the desired target policy and datastore. Click OK and repeat this if you have multiple VMs to be restored. Click Next.
  10. Select a VM, click Name… and type in the name for the new target VM. Click OK and repeat this if you have multiple VMs to be restored. If VMs should be placed into a certain VM folder select Folder… and do your selection. Click Next.
  11. Select Network of a VM, click Network… and choose the desired target network. Click OK and repeat this if you have multiple Networks or VMs to be restored. Click Next.
  12. Choose if the target VMs should be powered on and click Finish.
