Recipe: Create a New virtual Lab Hyper-V

Expected deliverables:

A virtual Lab for Hyper-V: an isolated virtual environment in which Veeam Backup & Replication verifies VMs.

Time to complete: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

• A Hyper-V host
• A valid license for Enterprise edition of Veeam Backup & Replication

Before you start:

The applications and services on which verified VMs are dependent must all be virtualized.

Assumptions:

It’s assumed that you already have a Veeam Backup Server fully working in your environment.

Method:

1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console and select Backup Infrastructure on the bottom left menu.
2. Right click SureBackup and choose Add Virtual Lab > Microsoft Hyper-V.
3. Give a name to the virtual lab and click Next.
4. Click Choose to select an Hyper-V host on which to create the virtual lab. Click Choose if you need to change the Path. Click Next.
5. In the Proxy step:
   • Flag the Use proxy appliance in this virtual lab check box
   • Use the Edit button to change the name of the proxy appliance
   • Use the Configure button set the network configuration to connect the proxy appliance to the production network.
   • If required, you can also flag the Allow proxy appliance to act as internet proxy for virtual machines in this lab check box to let VMs in the virtual lab access the Internet.
6. In the Networking step, select the type of network configuration between Basic single-host and Advanced single-host. Click Next.
7. In the Isolated Networks step (if you selected the advanced networking option):
   • Click Add to select the isolated networks that will be used for verification and map these to production networks, and optionally customize the isolated network name.
   • Click Next to proceed.
8. In the Network Setings step (if you selected the advanced networking option):
   • Click Add to specify the Proxy Appliance IP Address and Mask for every created isolated network and define the masquerade network address.
   • Select if DHCP is used, and define DNS servers if required, then click OK
   • Click Next to advance.
9. In the Static Mapping step (if you selected the advanced networking option):
   • You can optionally specify static IP address mapping rules by flagging the Define static IP address mapping check box.
   • Click Add to specify static IP address mapping rules and configure the Production Network and the Isolated IP and Access IP. Click OK, and Next.
10. Review the details and click Apply to save the Virtual Lab and close the wizard.
