Recipe: Veeam Configuration Restore

Expected deliverables:

Restore VBR Configuration from existing configuration backup.

Time to complete: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Veeam Backup and Replication server.
  • Configuration Backup file.
  • Current credentials in case they were changed since backup was run.

Before you start:

Configuration restore will replace existing VBR server configuration. This operation cannot be cancelled, consider running a manual backup of your configuration prior configuration restore. See VBR Configuration Backup (One-Time)

Assumptions:

You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed and a configuration file by hand. Ensure no jobs are running that cannot be stopped. During restore of configuration, Veeam Backup & Replication temporary stops the Veeam Backup Service and jobs.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup and Replication console.
  2. Click Main Menu button and select Configuration Backup.
  3. Click the Restore button,
  4. At the Restore Mode step, select Restore.
  5. At the Configuration Backup step, select the Backup Repository that contains the configuration backup, click Browse and select your backup file, then click Analyse.
  6. Check information, click Next if valid to continue with the process.
  7. Enter password to decrypt the configuration backup and click Next
  8. At the Target Database step, if required, select database engine and provide connection and authentication settings, confirm overwriting and click Next.
  9. At the Restore Options steps, review the settings and leave the default unless a change is required. Click in Restore.
  10. At the Restore Step, you can monitor the progress of the restore process. Click Next when the process is compleet.
  11. Review restore summary and re-lauch VBR interface.
