The Veeam Cookbook Series
A simple step by step no frills approach to achieving your goal
Recipe: Manual Population of Global Cache
Expected deliverables:
A manual pre-population of the global cache, so that it will contain data blocks that can be used for data deduplication.
Time to complete: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- A pair of source/target WAN accelerators
Before you start:
The manual population writes only data blocks for Windows-based OSes on the cache. Data blocks for other OSes like Linux/Unix and application data blocks are not written.
Assumptions:
It’s assumed that you already have a Veeam Backup Server fully working in your environment. You already have source/target WAN Accelerators set up. If you don’t, please refer to Add a New WAN Accelerator recipe.
Method:
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.
- Open the Backup Infrastructure view, select the WAN Accelerators node and right-click the target WAN accelerator. Select Populate cache.
- In the Source Backup Repositories window, select backup repositories from which OS data blocks must be retrieved.
- Click OK.
