Recipe: Restore a VMware virtual disk
Expected deliverables:
A restored VMware virtual machine disk.
Time to complete: 8 minutes
Ingredients:
- At least one Restore Point of the virtual machines from which the virtual disk should be recovered.
Before you start: With this procedure you will recover a VMware virtual disk to the source or different virtual machine.
Assumptions: You have a fully working Veeam Backup Server in your environment with a vSphere Infrastructure attached.
Method:
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.
- Select Home on the bottom left menu.
- Select Restore > VMware vSphere > Restore from backup > Disk restore > Virtual disks restore.
- Select the desired virtual machine from a backup job and click Next.
- Select an available restore point and click Next.
- In the Disk Mapping step:
- If you wish to map the virtual disk to a different virtual machine, click Choose and select the virtual machine from the tree view.
- Select the desired virtual disks in the disk mapping field and review the restored disk type
- (For disk restore to the original location and with original format) Select the Quick rollback check box if you want to use incremental restore for the VM disk.
- If Secure Restore is required, enable the Scan machine for virus threats prior performing recovery option and click in Next.
- Enter a restore reason and click Next, than Finish
- View the Restore session log and click Close once the restore is completed.
