Recipe: Add a New Repository IBM Cloud Object Storage

Expected deliverables:

A Veeam Backup & Replication IBM Cloud Object Storage Repository where Veeam keeps backup files and VM copies.

Time to complete: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • An IBM Cloud account.
  • You must create the bucket where you want to store your backup data beforehand.

Before you start:

The following storage classes are supported: Standard, Vault, Cold Vault and Smart Tier. Veeam does not support Archive and Accelerated Archive storage classes in the IBM public cloud.

Assumptions:

You have a Veeam Backup and Replication server installed.

Method:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.
  2. Select Backup Infrastructure on the bottom left menu, right click Backup Repositories and choose Add Backup Repository.
  3. Select Object Storage and IBM Cloud Object Storage.
  4. Give a name to the repository, change the number of concurrent tasks if needed and click Next.
  5. At the Account step:
    • Specify a service point address of your IBM cloud object storage.
    • Specify a Region and then select user credentials from the Credentials drop-down list.
    • You can specify the Veeam connects with the Object Storage via one or more Gateway Servers, or leave the default Direct option.
  6. Select a bucket from the drop-down list, and a folder to which you want to map your object storage repository. You can also define a disk soft limit not to be exceeded. Click Next.
  7. In the Mount Server step, select a Microsoft Windows Server that you want to use as a mount server from the drop-down list. Leave the other settings by default and click Next.
  8. At the Review step, review components which are already installed on the server and which will be installed. Click Next to start installation of missing components
  9. At the Apply step, wait till Veeam installs and configures all the required components. Click Next.
  10. At the Summary step, review details and click Finish to exit the wizard.
